The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ added 1.02 per cent on Thursday, and the tech sector was best performer in closing 1.7 per cent higher. Afterpay owner $Block Inc(SQ2.AU$ jumped 2.4 per cent and software player $IRESS Ltd(IRE.AU$ lifted 5.7 pe cent.
The financials sector firmed 1.5 per cent. $National Australia Bank Ltd(NAB.AU$ was the best performer among the banks, adding 2.3 per cent.
$Telstra Group Ltd(TLS.AU$ shares also reached their highest level since 2017 at $4.24 per share, before giving back some ground to close at $4.20.
Among the losers were the gold miners as the gold price gave back some strong recent gains. $Gold Road Resources Ltd(GOR.AU$ lost 3.9 per cent, with $Capricorn Metals Ltd(CMM.AU$ down 3.4 per cent.
