AU Evening Wrap: ASX Falls 1.4% to Lowest in Three Months as Tech Weigh

$S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU)$ struggled for the fourth straight session with a loss of 1.4 per cent to 7008.9 on worries about a financial crisis after the collapse of US lenders Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.
It was the lowest closing price in three months and nearing a 2023 trough of 6905 .3 touched on January 3.
Tech stocks were the biggest drag with $Novonix(NVX.AU)$ down 8.5 per cent. $BrainChip Holdings Ltd(BRN.AU)$ cratered 8 per cent and $Computershare Ltd(CPU.AU)$ retreated 7.8 per cent.
Tech company $PPK Group Ltd(PPK.AU)$ vaulted more than 14 per cent on plans to buy a large stake in privately owned lithium battery manufacturer PowerPlus Energy.
Family photo-sharing platform $Tinybeans Group Ltd(TNY.AU)$ powered up 7.4 per cent and hit a 10-month high after it managed to retrieve $US1.3 million in deposits at Silicon Valley Bank.
Banks, particularly regional lenders, were hit hard with $Suncorp Group Ltd(SUN.AU)$ dropping 3.6 pe cent, $Bank of Queensland Ltd(BOQ.AU)$ 2.8 per cent and Bendigo 1.5 per cent.
The major banks declined, except $CommBank(CBA.AU)$, up 0.2 per cent.
Gold miners offered a rare bright soft with $Newcrest Mining Ltd(NCM.CA)$ up 3 per cent and $Northern Star Resources Ltd(NST.AU)$ rose 1.4 per cent on global demand for the precious metal.
