  • Ixy The Cat : Gee, I used to work at SembCorp... so two minds if they should merge.

  • doctorpot1OP Ixy The Cat: ya vote to merge is the easy part, the actual merger is the hard part. need to combine 2 culture into 1, tons of reshuffling, and cost cutting, process redesign and so on... but well I guess the good thing will be Temasek probably won't let them die undefinedundefined maybe after merger will get hundreds of millions of dollars in grants hehe undefinedundefined

  • witty Llama_cin :

  • doctorpot1OP witty Llama_cin: hahahahhaa you mean merge already fat fat with cash and orders in order book? hahaha undefinedundefined

  • witty Llama_cin : Need to shed deadweight

  • doctorpot1OP witty Llama_cin: agreed undefined merge liao a lot of cost optimization can be done. frok what I recalled since covid the problem they have is not enough manpower to complete project, plus now orders are coming in like crazy, so don't think they will be cutting headcount anytime soon ba

  • Small bull doctorpot1OP: this scenario happen since decades. when oil is high, demands in shipyards high but when oil down, shipyards in trouble. This merge is 100% will be done because to reduce problem of shipyards in trouble when in bad times.
It depends on US and China relationship in order for market to pick up. China along can't pick up nor US, they need both hands to clap. Price will go up when merge but it will only be very high when both countries pick up.

  • Small bull doctorpot1OP: Yeah, both companies have very different culture, SMM like China workshop rule by Malaysians and Chinaman turned Singaporean while Keppel rule by Singaporean, Indians and Bangladesh with lots of political attitudes. Temasek won't let lots of big MNC die because their investment will turn to smoke and it will also influence many companies bankruptcy too if things go south.

  • snoopy123 : tho it was pitched officially as SMM buying Keppel O&M or at worse a merger, but the bigger stake seems to go to Keppel and looks more like Keppel buying SMM leh.. imagine if Keppel dont give out the SMM shares it receives, then Keppel becomes the bigger shareholder.. plus keppel person is going to helm the "merged" entity woh..

  • Small bull doctorpot1OP: SMM always procure or plan last minute for new projects and always end up hiccups. They also don't upgrade their facilities until it's unable to be maintained. Kep always trade in their facilities  when it's about 10 yrs old and buy a new facility to use up that budget. That's one of a big difference too. Kep willing to spend while SMM is very unwilling to spend and worse, they always try not to pay what they promised.
