Options Market Statistics (1/11): Market Volatility Decreases Ahead of CPI Data
U.S. stock futures rose, as investors looked ahead to Thursday's inflation data and considered the trajectory of interest rates.
Futures tied to the S&P 500 recently ticked up 0.4%. Contracts tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3%, while futures for the technology-focused Nasdaq-100 added 0.3%. The Chicago Board Options Exchange's CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) fell 6.3% to 20.58 points on Tuesday.

$Amazon(AMZN.US$ said its Buy with Prime service, which was previously available on an invite-only basis, will be broadly available to all US-based merchants by Jan. 31. Amazon rose nearly 3% yesterday, with option volume of 750,000, and call options accounted for nearly 51.6% of the volume. The 90.00 call expiring Friday lead the flow.
The Federal Aviation Administration lifted its ban an early-morning order to pause domestic departures and said regular air traffic was starting to resume across the country, after a critical system that alerts pilots and crew to safety advisories and other information for flights went down overnight. $American Airlines(AAL.US$ rose nearly 4%, with option volume of 375,000 options traded, and put options accounted for nearly 74%.
$Alibaba(BABA.US$ jumped 3.65%, with option volume of 430,000, above the daily average, and call options accounted for nearly 2/3 of the volume.
$Bed Bath & Beyond Inc(BBBY.US$ surged nearly 28%, with option volume of 415,000, tripling the daily average, and call options accounted for more than 60% of the volume. The 2.00 call and both 1.5 call, put expiring Friday were traded most actively.
