"I will not sell any shares next year"

This. It's classic open language.
"I will not sell any shares next year"
Elon could have anyone sell for him, from lawyers, to a family member. The use of shares ambiguous is misleading because he could always wiggle out and say he didn't mean Tesla stock. And next year can also be some wiggle shit about calendar versus fiscal year. Basically he'll sell throughout the remainder of this year and be able to keep the statement true.
If he wanted to be precise and reassuring, he would have said "I will sell no more shares of Tesla, at any point, before 2025, my share count of X will remain my share count until then, and if not I will step down as CEO".
Any promise without an enforcement mechanism is just lip service.
