Signs of cooling inflation helped the share market end a winning month at a fresh six-month closing high.
The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ rallied 31 points or 0.43 per cent to 7284, its strongest close since late May.
The market reversed an early loss after the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose less than expected last month, easing pressure on the Reserve Bank to keep raising interest rates.
Gains in mining, property and industrial stocks outweighed declines in traditional defensive sectors.
$Whitehaven Coal Ltd(WHC.AU$ climbed 8.42 per cent, aided by an upgrade from broker Bell Potter. $New Hope Corp Ltd(NHC.AU$ put on 6.82 per cent.
$Rio Tinto Ltd(RIO.AU$ was the pick of the heavyweights, rising 1.66 per cent. $BHP Group Ltd(BHP.AU$ gained 1.56 per cent.
