AU Evening Wrap: ASX Rises 0.6% to Five-Month High; Energy Producers and Miners Spearhead Gains

The share market closed at a five-month high as progress towards trade deals with Britain and India. The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU)$ rallied 42 points or 0.59 per cent to 7181. The index last finished higher in the first week of June.

Energy producers and miners spearheaded gains as coal and crude oil prices rose. Defensive sectors trailled with the improvement in risk appetite.

$Woodside Energy(WDS.US)$ rallied for the first time in four sessions, bouncing 2.86 per cent as crude prices recovered. $Santos Ltd(STO.AU)$ put on 2.19 per cent. $Beach Energy Ltd(BPT.AU)$ nudged up 0.88 per cent.

Coal miners were among the day's best performers following a 3.66 per cent rise in the price of coal out of Newcastle. $Whitehaven Coal Ltd(WHC.AU)$ climbed 7.81 per cent. $New Hope Corp Ltd(NHC.AU)$ tacked on 7.25 per cent

$BHP Group Ltd(BHP.AU)$ and $Rio Tinto Ltd(RIO.AU)$ steadied after yesterday's falls. BHP firmed 1.23 per cent. Rio added 1.03 per cent. Fortescue Metals eased 0.05 per cent during today's AGM.

A record full-year profit lifted $Technology One Ltd(TNE.AU)$ 5.1 per cent to an 11-month high. The enterprise software maker said record profits and revenues for 13 consecutive years underlined the strength of its business model.

$Bravura Solutions Ltd(BVS.AU)$ fell 6.06 per cent after warning it faces a "difficult and transitory year".
