The Joy of Human Bondage

If I could turn back the clock, would I have chosen the attractive offer of a scholarship attachment in Psychology Medicine overseas? I felt very fortunate and honoured to be selected for that prestigious award. It would have certainly enhanced my career path. Surprisingly, I have eventually rejected that offer. Was this decision my life's greatest regret?
It has happened in 2020, when my mum became wheelchair bound after a nasty injury. She was devastated and depressed. Being her sole child, I couldn't have heartlessly left her during that crucial time to chase my own dreams.
Henceforth, I have lost the opportunity to capture the goose that laid the golden eggs in my career development. Nevertheless, I live with no regrets because that 2 years of close bonding with mum was worth all sacrifices. With my mum I have learnt to face and overcome difficulties, and, to experience the joy of human bondage. In conclusion, I believe that it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.

  • doctorpot1 : agreed, time lost is something that can never be replaced. money and prestige can always be earned back later, but once time have passed it is not coming back.

  • The Daily Muse : I'm so sorry for your mum's loss and your own too. That is a lot of grief to carry. I know family pain and loss well, and all I can say is that you must keep pushing forward. There is nothing more important than taking care of our loved ones in such a terrible situation. Please be proud of yourself for being clever enough to have such an opportunity and proud for choosing your mum like she cared for you.

  • HuatLadyOP The Daily Muse: My heartfelt appreciation for your kind understanding and words of encouragement.

  • HuatLadyOP doctorpot1: Thanks doctorpot 1 for your very thoughtful advice. It's reassuring for me to have like-minded people in the Moomoo Community.
