With the loosening of Covid-19 restriction measures, businesses surveyed reported a two-year high in mooncake sales this year, with an increase of about 20%. With more employees returning to their workplaces, a number of businesses ordered mooncakes to give to their customers this year.
However, inflation has pushed up the cost of making mooncakes, resulting in a 5% to 10% increase in the selling price. The price of ingredients used to make mooncakes has risen sharply, especially sugar and flour, forcing bakers to increase their prices.
