MooHumor: Exit strategy

MooHumor: Exit strategy

"Life is like a box of chocolate. You'll never know what you gonna get."
— Forrest Gump

That's why people should always leave the back door open. It is like Rule #1 to follow while trading.

Always takes the best and worst probabilities into account so that investors can make an informed decision.
Now let's see how mooers set their stop loss/ profit taking strategy.
(Maybe some of them are the result of not using stop loss)

  • Violets : I'm definitely going to start though

  • Syuee : Stop loss is the backbone of any successful trading / investing journey. It is a must-use tool for anyone wanting to make sense of trading.

It tells us when we are wrong and right about our analysis. If stoploss were a God, investors would worship it !

Humans are emotional animals and we typically act on sentiment.

People who learn to use stoploss effectively know they have a proven and tested strategy, because they acknowledge that their strategy is not 100% accurate and they have to reduce loss when the market goes against them.

It is the same like using a parachute when you jump out of a plane, isn’t it? undefined

In trading / investing, we have to be defensive and aggressive at the same time.

If you are not aggressive, you are not going to make money, and if you are not defensive, you are not going to keep the money . undefined

  • GoLeopard : This is the first thing to remember when trading stocks. If you're going to plunge into the sea, wear a life jacket before your do so.

  • rennymc Syuee: You have the best, most informative and positive responses of anyone on this app! Thank you for your wisdom and Zen. Is there a place to learn about stop losses and how to use/set them on moomoo?

  • HuatLady Syuee:

  • HuatLady Syuee: As seasoned investors, it is vital that we  should have a solid Stop Loss and Profit Target plan, pending on our personal investment style and financial goals.

  • Milk The Cow : Can't really think of an example to illustrate the importance of "stop loss" ...undefined

Let's see 👀, eg. u are pouring soya sauce directly from the bottle to marinate ur chicken 🐔 meat but opps, undefined my hand slipped & accidently poured in too much.

    What will u do?
    1. Stop immediately ✋️ & drain out the excess soya sauce from the chicken meat 🍖 & re-used it on another dish undefined.
    2. Ah, whatever, already gone case liao, might else pour the whole bottle in & throw away the whole dish & eat cabbage for dinner undefined.

(In the 1st place, why so stupid to pour directly into the main dish undefined? Common, it's just an example to illustrate the importance of "stop loss"undefined. Of course u use a tea spoon 🥄 or table spoon. Well, the pro chef 👨‍🍳 will just use estimation pouring from the bottle undefined.)

Same as stock, u can sell "stop loss" by selling away junk stocks that dragging ur portfolio down & buy in on strong company stock that is unlikely to fail in the long-term undefined (NOT an advise undefined).
Not a lot ppl can do this undefined, me included sometime. Trying to do better undefined.

  • Syuee rennymc: Only doing my bit to contribute within the MooMoo Community. Thank you !! undefined

As a trader / investor, one have to be aware that literally any trade can go against us, no matter how confident we are about it.

This is why we always have to know where we will stop out, if things go wrong.

In other words to protect ourselves, we have to use a stop loss.

Not cutting losses, holding and hoping the trade comes back is one of the most common mistakes that traders make.

Yes, the trade may come back once or twice and we may make money that way, but it is actually very bad for our development as a trader / investor.

The reason is that we will learn the wrong lesson.

Next time when we try to do this and the trade doesn’t come back, we will either become a bagholder or even worse, blow our account.

The point is both scenarios, lead to disaster.

This is why we should always use a stop loss and cut losses, on time. undefined

The safety of capital should always be the first priority !!

Trading without a stop loss is like driving a car without brakes, isn’t it ?? undefined

I may not be the best person to answer your question, as I usually do my own calculations and set manual price alerts to trigger my attention for stop loss.

I believe I am the master of my fate, so I have not tried using any trailing stop loss limit order feature yet.

(Truth is : I enjoy smacking the “sell” button undefined)

Should you try out this feature, please share the experience with me ?

Syuee certainly has lots more to learn !! undefined
