Hi, mooers!
Welcome to the first round of Capital Analysis Events! Today, we will explore a powerful tool for judging market sentiment – short sale analysis. What’s more, we have prepared ways to win plenty of sharing rewards right in this post!
Buckle up, and let's roll!
A short sale occurs when investors first borrow a large number of securities and sell them at a high price in the market. When the price of the securities falls in the future, they buy back the securities at a lower price and return the borrowed securities. Profits are thus made.
More details about short sale are as below. Let's take a look.

Disclaimer: Short selling is the process of selling borrowed stock at the current price, then closing the trade by purchasing the stock at a future time. When short selling there is no limit on how high a stock price could rise so the potential loss is unlimited. However I noticed that the short interest data seem to be a bit lagging indicator.
Does moomoo app has the real time data that is up to date undefined?

  • steady Pom pipi : Great sharing. This is new knowledge for me, I want to study it carefullyundefinedundefinedundefined

  • chris from queens : this information is critical for every stock.  I love how you can see how much a company was shorted the % interest change and the volume...I've been following this, my favorite tools to use because as we all know it's not just retail who is shorting..it's big corporations who don't want the stock to rise but sometimes they can get too overleveraged and end up starting a short squeeze in the process by accident but really they just pushed the envelope a tad too far and with added volume, buying pressure, cash inflow and other indicators RSI for example a stock could run huge!  I am so glad that you guys decided to do a segment specifically about a topic that is very crucial. IMO shorting shares are needed for the stock market to work properly, to hedge and make it an even playing field. but these hedge funds and family offices are shorting companies sometimes in a day or two shorting companies whole floats 10 times over that's called being a greedy SOB who thinks the laws don't apply to them and they could over leverage 100x with no repercussion just a measly million dollar fine slap in the wrist.. when the hedge funds eventually get exterminated from the stock market the SEC and all other authority figures of securities and assets will hire a third party to do the proper shorting of stocks and hedging of the market for the better of the people... we need to get chat rooms so we are able to speak through audio on here...MOOMOO IS THE BEST COMMUNITY OUT OF ALL PLATFORMS BECAUSE THE COMPANY AND THE CLIENTS PLAY ACCORDING TO THE RULES AND ALSO DEAL WITH INTERACTIVE BROKERS WHO DISTANCED THEMSELVES FROM THE REAL MARKET MAKER / HEDGE FUNDS SCUM FELONS AND WENT IN SUCH A POSITIVE DIRECTION AND I'M PROUD TO DO MY BUSINESS WITH MOOMOO FINANCIAL, FUTU, INTERACTIVE BROKERS. OH YEAH DTCC HAVE OUR MONEY READY!

  • Sedliberanosamalo : Thanks for the lesson. However, higher interest rate on borrowed shares also mean there are limited amount of shares to borrow thus the increase in interest rate. Many countries have different regulations on when the shares borrowed must be covered. It cannot be indefinite. This is where it’s most crucial. If I can borrow and short and cause the share to drop without covering, every big securities firm will do it. Moomoo can help by letting retail investors know the rules.

Now back to high interest rates of borrowed shares. This scenario will also mean a short squeeze might happen sooner than later. If the profit from the drop in price is not worth the interest to be paid, firms will be hard press not to quickly cover their position thus buying back borrowed shares thus causing an increase. Therefore they are being “squeezed” to buy.

The usual short squeeze candidates are still the same. AMC, GME, Beyond Meat, Avis (car rental) with the travelers out in force, car rentals biz do well. Macy’s and Chesapeake Energy.

Always do your due diligence. Shorts do not play by the rules. They are soft on rules and regulations, that’s why they are paid big bucks and win extremely often. Long jail time for CEOs and culprits must be enforced. Even for a ceo who has resigned.

    Happy hunting!
