The United States declares monkeypox as a public health emergency

On Aug. 4, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra declared monkeypox as a public health emergency in the United States. According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States currently has 6617 confirmed monkeypox cases, the largest number of confirmed cases in the country. The announcement of a public health emergency may release broader financial and regulatory flexibility to deal with the spread of monkeypox.
