Diminishing concern about higher interest rates helped lift the share market to a seven-week high on the eve of the August RBA meeting.
The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ rallied 48 points or 0.69 per cent to 6993, its highest close since June 10. The index finished near its high for the day.
Gains in energy producers, utilities and healthcare providers helped offset a mixed session for the major banks and miners. Some of last week's best performers came off the boil as a new month commenced.
Lithium miners provided some of the day's best performers. $Allkem Ltd(AKE.AU$ gained 4.52 per cent. $Core Lithium Ltd(CXO.AU$ firmed 2.6 per cent after reporting "outstanding" drilling results. $Lake Resources NL(LKE.AU$ rallied 2.47 per cent.
Other notable gains included $Lynas Rare Earths Ltd(LYC.AU$+4.48 per cent and $Elders Ltd(ELD.AU$+4.17 per cent.
$Aussie Broadband Ltd(ABB.AU$ dived 15.98 per cent after reporting a slowdown in customer growth last quarter. Total broadband services increased 7 per cent last quarter, versus an 11 per cent increase in Q3. Year-on-year growth of 46 per cent pushed full-year earnings towards the top end of guidance of $38-$39 million.
