Singapore Elections Department proposes new voting arrangements for overseas Singaporeans

The Elections Department (ELD) intends to pilot two new arrangements for next year's presidential election, including allowing overseas Singaporeans to vote by post and allowing people in nursing home to vote at their accommodation without having to travel to the polling station.

Depending on the feedback from stakeholders, including political parties, nursing home operators and overseas Singaporeans, these may be piloted during the next presidential election.

ELD stated that it would regularly review the campaign process to enhance the voting experience of Singaporeans. The 2020 General Election, held amidst the Covid-19, highlights two key issues - an aging electorate and the difficulty for some voters abroad to travel in-person to overseas polling stations.
