Mom's Advice, better than Mom's Spaghetti!

Moms and advice go together like peas and carrots.
My Mom was always full of advice on everything from how to tie our shoes with a double knot to how to properly prepare a holiday meal.
Her approach to investing came late in life, but she was very clear about one thing: the only person you could trust to know what's best for you is YOU!
She read all the trade magazines, spoke to brokers, and watched the news every chance she had to educate herself.
Her advice was that the advice of others was always welcome, but don't believe everything you hear - do your own research.
Hear about a "sure thing"? Great, just make sure you research it before you sink your nest egg into it.
Speaking of eggs, "NEVER put all your eggs into one basket" i.e. DIVERSIFY. Make sure you're investing in a variety of products and investment vehicles to ensure you're always making money.
I'm not sure what my Mom's obsession with eggs was about, but it's turned out to be great advice.
