Australia's $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU)$ closed 1.6% lower at 7473.3, falling to a weekly loss after its worst day in two months snapped a five-session winning streak. Commodity, tech and financial stocks led losses as the benchmark followed U.S. indexes lower.

Shares of gold, iron ore and copper miners lost ground as the materials sector fell 3.3% to a four-week low.

Banks $ANZ Group Holdings Ltd(ANZ.AU)$, $Westpac Banking Corp(WBC.AU)$, $National Australia Bank Ltd(NAB.AU)$ and $CommBank(CBA.AU)$ retreated between 0.8% and 2.75%, giving up some recent gains made amid expectations of interest-rate rises.

$Megaport Ltd(MP1.AU)$ led tech losses, falling 9.7% to a fresh two-year low.
