Vote Now | Meta plans to take a nearly 50% cut of virtual asset sales in its metaverse
$Meta Platforms (FB.US)$ CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been a critic of $Apple (AAPL.US)$'s app store fees of 30%, but Meta's latest move to charge creators nearly half their sales on its own platform has angered many of them.
The company plans to take a 47.5% cut of all digital asset sales on its Horizon Worlds platform.
The overall charge comprises of 30% hardware platform fee for sales made through Meta Quest Store, where it sells apps and games meant for its virtual reality headsets, and a further 17.5% cut as its Horizon platform fees, a Meta spokesperson said on Wednesday.
By comparison, NFT sales on OpenSea carry just a 2.5% commission.
Mooers, any thoughts on Meta's fee structure? Will Meta's high fee structure dissuade content creators from taking part in the experiment?
