AU Morning Wrap: ASX opens higher as Wall Street claws back early losses

Wall Street Summary
A recovery in Big Tech helped Wall Street overcome early weakness as investors continued to price in higher rates and the rapid withdrawal of Federal Reserve stimulus spending.

The $Dow Jones Industrial Average(.DJI.US)$ finished 87 points or 0.25 per cent ahead after being down as much as 300 points. The $S&P 500 Index(.SPX.US)$ rose19 points or 0.43 per cent. The $Nasdaq Composite Index(.IXIC.US)$ scraped a gain of eight points or 0.06 per cent.

AU Market Watch
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 is poised to rise at the open as U.S. markets rallied after falling earlier in the week with investors weighing the potential for interest rates to rise. ASX futures are up 0.5%, suggesting the benchmark index will reverse yesterday's negative close at the open.

Australia shares opened higher this morning. The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU)$ gained 0.51 per cent to 7480 as of 10:09 pm.
Stocks to Watch
$Rio Tinto Ltd(RIO.AU)$: Rio Tinto will not need to consult its Russian partner when making operational decisions at their shared alumina refinery in Queensland and may enjoy an economic windfall, after executing a “step-in” rights related to sanctions on Russian businesses and billionaires.

$South32 Ltd(S32.AU)$: South32 has made its first foray in the US 144a market, with a sale of $US700 million of 2032 senior notes via its subsidiary South32 Treasury to refinance debt. The offer will pay an interest of 4.35 per cent per annum. The issue is guaranteed by South32 and other wholly owned subsidiaries of South32.

$Virtus Health Ltd(VRT.AU)$: Virtus Health remains in a trade halt. On Thursday it was notified that CapVest Partners 'intends to submit a revised proposal to Virtus'. Would make it the 8th proposal made for the Group in recent months.

Commodities
• Iron ore prices fell below US$160 a tonne.
• Oil prices edged lower as the massive International Energy Agency crude reserve release is providing short-term relief for prices.
• Gold continues to stabilise around the US$1,900 level. Prices edged slightly higher overnight as an aggressive Fed and geopolitical risks as driving positive flows for the yellow metal.

  • 搞经济 抄底 加仓 : DJI.US really don't work very well around AU timetable. Whenever AU market open majority DJI.US, S&P future goes RED and back Green after AU market closed. Since like DJI.US don't work well Asian timing .
