Pragmatic Measure

Singapore has no choice but to open up its borders as most western European countries and even south East Asian countries like Indonesia and Thailand are starting to do so. Failure to keep pace will have a huge impact on Singapore's economy as foreign investment and companies based in Singapore will be be negatively impacted by the restrictions in labour movement and tourism. Singapore also depends on labour supply from Malaysia and Malaysia depends on tourists from Singapore to boost each other's economy.
