TA Challenge: How do you identify trends with moving averages?
Views 199K Contents 310

Moving Averages

I absolutely refuse to use these indicators.  I recognize that with equities and commodities most of the long term traders (Swing and Day trading) will be looking at these for positions, but to me they are useless.
I can see what the price is doing overall by looking at the chart with different time frames.
I prefer to use a price action strategy informed by auction market theory.  I am not interested in what moving averages or RSIs are saying because they are old news.  I want live information and lagging indicators can throw false signals if you aren’t adept and it just looks noisey to me.
I am most interested in what the volume and market profile information is.
*The only* moving average indicator I will use on my charts is the #VWAP because it is live and takes volume into consideration.

Moving Averages
If you are using a moving average to determine trend, you can save the load time by just zooming out and seeing what the price is doing.
I have the VWAP indicator loaded on that chart because to me seeing where volume is being traded is far more useful.
All in all market profile > lagging indicators
*Not financial or strategy advice, this is what works for me.*
