Syuee : While inflation is one of the concerns weighing on $General Motors (GM.US)$, the ongoing global semiconductor chip shortage may be the bigger issue. Since this is an industrywide problem, $General Motors (GM.US)$ is unlikely to be immune.
However, focusing too much on short-term supply issues would be regrettable, because one would miss out on $General Motors (GM.US)$'s massive long-term catalyst - The electrification of consumer vehicles and enterprise fleets.
General Motors is investing heavily in an electrified future. Last year, the company upped its commitment to spend $35 billion through 2025 on electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous vehicles, and battery research/facilities.
$General Motors (GM.US)$ should have the capacity to produce more than 1 million EVs annually in North America by the end of 2025, with around 600,000 units being EV trucks produced at its Orion Township, Michigan plant.

Though it is a fair point, it is also crucial to recognise that the company does not singularly deal in the production of one mineral. Instead, it has a portfolio that reflects the diversity of assets including iron ore, copper, aluminium, lithium, and diamonds, thus having diversity that mitigates the risk of any single commodity suffering a downturn in pricing.
