Electric vehicles dominated Super Bowl ads, but are still only 9% of passenger car sales
Six of the seven car brands that ran an ad during the Super Bowl featured electric vehicles, according to analysis published Monday by the online car shopping marketplace Cars.com.
The start-up Polestar featured its Polestar 2, while $General Motors(GM.US$'s corporate brand advertised several EVs. Other brands pushing electric cars included $BAYER MOTOREN WERK(BMWYY.US$ , GM's Chevy, Kia, $Nissan Motor (ADR)(NSANY.US$ and $Toyota Motor(TM.US$ .
Those ad dollars are a sign of where the car industry is going, but don't reflect where car sales stand right now: Only 9% of total global passenger car sales were electric vehicles, according to new research published Monday from market research company Canalys.
