There are two main types of news: news that affect the entire economy (like wars, interest rate outlook), news that are company specific (like earnings announcements, acquisition or disposal of a business, etc). Generally, I will look at news to see whether it will have a long or short term effects on companies I invest in and make a decision on what to do about the news
