Co-Wise: Do you trade the news? Why, or why not?
Views 270K Contents 305

⭐️⭐️⭐️🙌🏻Exploiting the news🙌🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️

I like the phrase in the original post regarding how markets can change in milliseconds based on the change of events (news)
My position
Definitely a believer of news trading. The size of the movements are mainly what the players in the market are after, but of course one can say that long term investments are the way to go as the key is not how you time the market but how long are you in the market.
My idea would be having both but lacking the art to trade on news would be losing out on the opportunities out there.
Meme frenzy
As far as I can remember, during the hype stonks days in year 2021.. there is a wave of interest brought on by the retail traders into companies $AMC Entertainment(AMC.US)$ $GameStop(GME.US)$ that would have thought to be un-survivable in the current times (All thanks to WSB and the apes 🦍 with diamond hands 💎 🙌🏻 out there). A whooping 2400% potential return based on the meme chase, I am guessing anyone who dipped their hands into this gold geyser at the right time could rake in considerable profits.

The Ark story and Tesla cult
$ARK Innovation ETF(ARKK.US)$ and $Tesla(TSLA.US)$ typically surfaced to my attention in the April of 2020 where there is a lot of chatter about the change in the way the world is going to move post-pandemic through innovation and technology application (reason behind the name of the ETF). Elon Musk paved his way as one of the most influential market movers via his famed business through his daily tweets, with just a simple remark of valuation being 'too high' resulting in a more than 11% plunge in the stock price.

Having a trade, be it scalping for profits or having a position by being a contrarian could possibly serve advantageous since the stock price recovered in the following week.
Surprise corporate uno-reverse
A uno-reverse hurts, much like an unpleasant surprise but think about having an uno-reverse in real life, and to your hard-earned cash.

Such a story could have humbled the rumours or news traders of $Pinterest(PINS.US)$ when $PayPal(PYPL.US)$ confirmed that there was no acquisition of pinterest, wiping out all the elevated gains fueled with the previous rumour.
All-in-all
News could generate parabolic returns (or losses) for sure. It dwells down to the individual's confidence in what they read and decision making.
