Risk Warning! Morgan Stanley advises allocating mid - and small-cap value stocks
Morgan Stanley says life will get tough for investment as easy monetary policy is removed and economic growth slows.
In fact, while the large-cap index has been very strong over the past year, 51 per cent of all market gains since April have actually come from just five stocks, most of which have made no progress since March and many of which are in bear markets.
Over the last nine months, quality biases have driven an increasing amount of money into a handful of large-cap growth stocks. Large-cap growth stocks have massively outperformed small-cap growth stocks, further underscoring the importance of favoring large-cap stocks over small-cap stocks since March.
Valuations will matter again.
Looking for large-cap defensive targets amid tightening by the Fed and other central banks should focus more on small-cap value stocks than small-cap growth stocks.
