Top 10 Companies by Market-Cap in SG(1/2)

Singapore is a world-renowned financial center in Southeast Asia and one of the most important capital markets in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific.
Singapore also has a robust national economic system. Let's look at the ten listed companies with the highest market capitalization in Singapore.

No. 10 HongkongLand
Market cap: SGD$12.52 billion

Hongkong Land is a property investor holding prime commercial assets, mainly in Hong Kong and Singapore. Rental incomes account for about 75% of the operating profits and mostly come from Hong Kong. Gains from the property development projects in Singapore and China contribute to the rest.

Figure 1 shows that the total revenue of Hongkong Land is relatively unstable. It has been decreasing since 2018. Likewise, the net income of Hongkong Land became negative in 2020.

Before 2019, the share price of Hongkong Land only fluctuated slightly. It reached a peak at the beginning of 2019 and continued to decline until the end of 2020. As the pandemic occurred, the average share price fell more than 50% in the previous years. However, it regained momentum at the beginning of 2021. (Figure 2)

No. 9 SIA
Market cap: SGD$14.63 billion

Singapore Airlines(SIA) is Singapore's flagship carrier and one of the region's most prominent airlines by revenue and carrying capacity. Changi Airport's hub provides services for regional and cross-continental passengers and cargo destined to or transited through Singapore.

Figure 3 shows that SIA's total revenues and net incomes have dramatically dropped in 2021, with a possible cause of the pandemic.

Similarly, the stock price of SIA has had a significant drop since 2020. In 2021, its stock performance grew gradually and recently floated at US $5. (Figure 4)

No. 8 ThaiBev
Market cap: SGD$16.83 billion

Thai Beverage PLC is a Thailand-based company that produces and distributes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food. The company operates across spirits, beer, non-alcoholic beverages.

ThaiBev belongs to the consumer staples sector. Unlike other companies within the industry, ThaiBev did not benefit from the Covid-19. The total revenue of ThaiBev is going down slowly, but the net income in 2021 increased slightly compared to 2020. (Figure 5)

According to figure 6, the stock price of ThaiBev was volatile in the past five years. It hit the first bottom in Jan 2019 and bounced back shortly. In Feb 2020, the share price dropped considerably but entered into a slow recovery at the end of the year.

No. 7 IHH
Market cap: SGD$18.64 billion

IHH Healthcare Bhd operates a network of healthcare clinics, hospitals, and postoperative rehabilitation centers. It maintains diagnostic laboratories, imaging centers, ambulatory care centers and medical education facilities.

Figure 7 indicated that the net income of IHH fell heavily in 2020 compared to that of 2019.

The share price of IHH went up and down in the past five years. It hit bottom at the end of 2018 and again at the beginning of 2020 but started to grow in the mid-2021 and achieved a new high recently. (Figure 8)

No. 6 JMH
Market cap: SGD$40.02 billion

Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd is a business conglomerate that operates primarily in Greater China and Southeast Asia. The group oversees a portfolio of prominent businesses, including Hong Kong Land, a property investment firm, and Dairy Farm, a food retailer.

Based on Figure 9, the net revenue of LMH in 2020 did not perform well as other companies. The company's net income dropped significantly in 2018 and 2020 year over year and was negative in 2020.

Since the price per share of JMH is much higher than the companies mentioned above, it seems to the wave gently in the recent five years. (Figure 10)
