  • Poop Turtle : Grab super app is slowly changing the landscape.
If app is down for a day in Singapore.
30k - 40k of grab car hIrer no income
Maybe 10k - 20k grab food delivery no income..
As long as it entrench into the economies.. it is like internet banking down a few hrs it is a big issues. As long as it grow critical along this line will have a future. All the macro loan that they are offering. One probably see more and more grab paym accept everywhere in Singapore . Potential to disrupt bank and fInance companies in the long run

  • James Lee1OP : that's still a cloudy dream as far as I see it. with competition coming from the region. really not sure.

  • 102315873 Poop Turtle: False. Everyone would simply sign up with their multitude of competitors, and life would simply carry on as usual. Grab is nowhere near as important as you seem to think. Most people in South East asia simply go to whatever platform gives them the best deal at that point in time, whether grab or otherwise.

  • Poop Turtle 102315873: everyone can built a app. But funding a app to scale need Deep pocket and willingness to spend big for a few years. Competitors see the kind of money spent. Will think twice to complete head on. I think that grab advantage. Quite a few companies embarking on the transport app but all give up In Singapore includIng some of our local Listed one

  • Poop Turtle Poop Turtle: Mobilityx back by SmRT
Zipster all gone with the wind

  • Poop Turtle Poop Turtle: Even ryde and ComfortDelGro app are having a hard tIme keeping up with grab and gojek competition

  • Grabthecrab 102315873: dun really agree with ur points as grab driver will simply switch to others platform even with better incentive and deal. Foodpanda /grab /deliveroo have totally different job taking system. I am not saying Grab is indispensable, but grab is enssential and important for many singaporean livelihood , especially during this covid period.

  • 102315873 Poop Turtle: It's a fair point that building an app is very different from scaling up. But the other companies didn't give up because Grab's product was better. They did it because Grab had far more cash to burn than them and could afford to hold prices at an unsustainable level than those companies could. The problem is that if a company's sole reason for succeeding is that they have more cash to burn, it also means they will never be able to raise prices at a financially sustainable level. Anytime they try to do so, someone else will take the opportunity to come in and undercut them. Personally, I feel that this practice of giving huge blank cheques to startups (as grab received years back) is detrimental to the economy. It fosters an environment where it isn't the company with the best product comes out on top, but the company which has the largest amount of funds in the bank.

  • 102315873 Grabthecrab: Agreed there might be some differences, but the point is there are very viable alternatives, and Grab can hardly be considered as more 'essential' than food panda/deliveroo, and so on. In fact, we must strive to keep it that way - can you imagine what would happen if Grab was the only viable player in town? Guanrenteed that prices paid by customers would rise, and salary paid to riders/drivers (who btw, are not employees but 'private contractors' and hence can be terminated at will) would fall drastically.
