  • Dadacai : Three of the most important rules in money management are: 1) Have sufficient savings to cover one’s living expenses for at least 6 months before investing 2) Don’t put in more than what one can lose for medium to high risk investments 2) Diversify. That way, if an investment fails, one won’t have any problems surviving financially.

It is important to analyse the reasons for the failure of the investment. If they are temporary In nature, it could be a matter of time before the losses turn into profits. Otherwise, take it as a lesson learnt and cut loss. This is painful but can save one from even greater losses if the investment continues to go down. I would study what mistakes I made so I can avoid them in future.

  • mjshealingcorner HopeAlways: hopefully!!!!

  • aoimizu Dadacai: Very sound advice. Thanks for sharing!

  • Syuee : Best thing to do is close it - sell it!

I give myself two good reasons to sell at a loss.

undefined To stop the bleeding, stop the loss. Stop myself from further losses.
undefined Save my money for the next trade. That’s right. Whatever is left from a failed investment - take what I have left and prepare that for a brand new investment.

We all make mistakes. Face it. Fix it; close it out. Start afresh. We all need to start fresh - clean slate.

I don’t allow failed investments to bog me down. It is much better to tuck my ego, admit my investment failed, close it, take back what I can and save that for my next investment. I will learn from my mistakes, grow and move on.undefinedundefined

    I fall. I break. I fail.
    But then,
    I rise. I heal. I overcome.

  • HopeAlways : As defeating as any investment failure would feel, how we react to the failure would be more important than the failure itself. It is useful to learn to cope with the failure with the right mindset. Losses in the stock market can come in different forms, and each of the type of losses can be painful, but we can mitigate the pain with the correct mindset and a willingness to learn from the failure. No investor would want to suffer any losses, but the best course of action is to turn it into a learning experience that could help us move forward. We should not allow the failure to define us, but to keep the failure in context and not take it personally. Instead, we could remind ourselves that the failure would not define us, but it could make us better investors if we could handle it correctly.  Analysing the choices we made that led to the failure could work. We could do so by reviewing the decisions we made from a new angle after some time has passed. What would we have done differently in hindsight, and why? Would we have lost lesser or perhaps even nothing at all if we had acted differently? Reflecting on those questions could help us avoid making the same mistake again in our investing, which may make us better investors going forward.
