When considering top shows and movies, this survey doesn't even look at programming outside $Netflix(NFLX.US)$ Netflix, $Amazon(AMZN.US)$ Amazon Prime, $Disney(DIS.US)$ Disney+, and $Apple(AAPL.US)$ Apple TV. It's rather silly. Those four services could all fall by the wayside (Apple TV basically has already), and still be considered to include 100% of top shows and movies. It's like surveying only Democrats and concluding that 100% of Americans want open borders.

The only useful message here is that Disney is hideously overvalued. If you think streaming will become immensely profitable, buy Netflix. Disney is an also-ran that's already topped out on Disney+ subscribers and can't figure out how to generate signifiant profits from its physical infrastructure (parks, hotels, and cruise ships) in the post China virus world. If you're going to buy a streaming stock with a sky-high P/E, Netflix is the one to buy.

  • Brandon Golden : The biggest problem with this analysis is that it's domestic only. I would expect broadcast to be a bigger factor overseas as the transition to streaming continues to percolate throughout the world but that transition will happen and it would be useful to get a more holistic read on it.

  • Geminiasianboi : AppleTV+ seems very narrowly aimed at an audience for prestige drama that is impressed at seeing big (but fading) stars. I'm not sure what the point is, other than to be fun hobby for Tim Cook.
Disney+ has had an impressive run-up and it hasn't topped out. It has immense potential but they need to take the next logical step and start putting grownup content on Disney+, under its own parentally-controlled zone, like is happening overseas. Domestically they are inhibited by a deal with Comcast that Disney really needs to think about getting out of, soon.

  • IT farmer : Its a trade off.
There's no such thing (with two exceptions) of 'free TV'. There's TV programming with ads and there are subscription services without ads. All broadcast has ads, and this INCLUDES PBS with their own form of ads. Are you willing to accept sitting thru ads or not?
The two exceptions are HOOPLA and KANOPE, which are thru your local library. Fee with no ads.

  • Marvan : Come on Warner Brothers!

  • r8ntdxstAw Marvan: Warner Brothers content wasn't even included in the survey, which is one reason it's not particularly helpful. We could have a year in which every Netflix and Disney movie had lower streaming viewership than every Warner Brothers movie, and the top 10 movies would still be a combination of Netflix and Disney movies. It's a useless survey, except for comparing Netflix with Disney, which tells you how far behind Disney is.
