I've generally avoided banks partly because you're at the mercy of what's on their balance sheet and their ability to risk rate appropriately, which for investors can be hard to determine. Furthermore, it's a highly regulated space which hurts profitability. Lastly, Ive worked in banking my whole life and thus want to avoid my income and savings all being tied to the same sector. It's kind of a personal hedge more than anything.
Pot growers because it seems over hyped, it seems like a commodity business with tons of competition, and most companies out there today are penny stocks, OTC/pink slips, and have a lot of dealings with 3rd party entities owned by management.
