Earnings Preview
Earnings season is picking up steam and on Tuesday, after the bell, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will announce its quarterly results. Wall Street calls for Q1 revenue of $3.21 billion, amounting to an 82% year-over-year, EPS is expected to hit $0.44.

AMD stock rose 4.7% last Friday,  while Intel shares suffered their worst day of the year so far after the disappointed Q1 2021 earnings, the competition in server business between the two is worth addressing.

In March 2021, AMD unveiled the third-generation AMD EPYC processors (codenamed Milan) to further its prospects in the server processor market. Semi-custom revenues in the first quarter are anticipated to benefit from strong demand for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5 gaming consoles. The latest generation hardware consoles were launched in November 2020. Higher EPYC server processor together with solid traction in semi-custom product sales along with momentum in deals wins are expected to have contributed to Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom revenues in the first quarter.
