Maybe you could elborate on the meaning. If I am "running before him" and "buy before him," how could I then "follow" up with him? The metaphor seems logical impossible. Do you mean to use the phrase "follow up with him" as if to communicate "only after you can do these things may you ask him questions," was this the meaning of your comment?
