The global tech giants are betting on the future of virtual technology. Microsoft announced Tuesday that it will acquire "Call of Duty" maker Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion with plans to launch Activision Blizzard games into Game Pass, making it the largest acquisition deal in the history of the gaming industry.
According to the analyst, social and gaming are the top 2 sectors that may benefit from the disturbing trend of Metaverse. As Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella mentioned, Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting part of all platform entertainment features today and will play a key role in the development of the Metaverse platform. Months ago, Facebook changed its name to Meta, and Apple set out to launch VR headset, indicating the giants are running into the show.
Do you believe in Metaverse? The next generation of the internet or just a meaningless illusion? Which stocks do you think are in favor with the market?

$Microsoft(MSFT.US$ agreed to buy $Activision Blizzard(ATVI.US$ in an all-cash deal valued at about $75 billion, using its largest acquisition by far to grab a videogame heavyweight.

Why I fail to see how the Metaverse will succeed
I've read that a lot of people here are super bullish on the Metaverse and various "digital words"
As a VR consumer and developer I however am very skeptical that the masses will flock to an digital world.
The metaverse is not a new concept, its been around since the 90s if not further back. There is already a form of metaverse called "Second life" where you can own properties, join communities and pretty much "live" in a real world.

Metaverse - The New Future or Just Hype?
Anyone who has ever watched the Korean drama “Memories of the Alhambra” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2Lcy3XUDd_A must have been intrigued by its portrayal of augmented and virtual reality. Although the drama is pure fiction, we may be closer to a future integrated with AR and VR than we think.

Avatar 2022?
Welcome back Mooers.
In today discussion, we will talk about Metaverse.
The term “Metaverse” came from the science fiction novel “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson in 1992. In Metaverse, life-like avatars can interact with each other in the virtual reality (VR) environment just like what they can do in the current real world.
However, to reach that stage, companies will need to develop more advance technology such as real-life holograms and those in the movie Avatar!

$Activision Blizzard(ATVI.US$ With the news of $Microsoft(MSFT.US$ acquiring them at $95 per stock, it seems like a good investment right now, 30% profit when the transaction completes (the current price is $72.59).
This is called merger arbitrage (although the spread between share price and merger price is not that high usually).
If you invest now, and it gets approved - you will have a nice 30% profit as you said. However if it doesn't go through, a lot will dump the stock - and the shares will trad...

If Microsoft is buying activision at 95 dollars a share, how come the share price has risen to "only" 80 dollars?
$Meta Platforms(FB.US$$Activision Blizzard(ATVI.US$$Microsoft(MSFT.US$ Big news today as microsoft is set to aquire another video game giant in Activision at 95 dollars a share. Activision share price has soared from the news but as I am writing it, "only" about 25% to 80 dollars. Why not closer to 95 dollars? What would prevent this deal from going through?

Do i want a metaverse? No. Do i want full dive video games? Yes
Metaverse seems really really really dumb and blown out of proportion currently. Yes AR\VR can be helpful, great things but that doesn't mean im gonna pay real money for digital sneakers to look cool in N64 graphics.

🥤A second world
Metaverse is a virtual world and $Meta Platforms(FB.US$ is joining to be one of the virtual worlds. $Disney(DIS.US$$Sony(SONY.US$$Microsoft(MSFT.US$ all are joining this metaverse as people are going to become addicted to these worlds and all sort of nefarious stuff might happened. All sorts of scams started and of course from another view, one could make millions from this new world.

Belief driven by Covid
As much as I don't want to admit this but we are moving towards the metaverse era where reality gets 'uploaded' onto the metaverse.

I think $Meta Platforms(FB.US$ is mostly just trying to get ahead of the curve before it turns into something more mainstream. Right now I don’t see the appeal or know anyone even thinking about using it, VR headsets just aren’t popular enough.
I have no doubts it will eventually be a thing though. I think it will start with useful technology such as augmented VR which could be useful for navigation, work, interior design, video games, etc.
