Some days I’m just an old man shaking his fists at the clouds.
Staying relevant is an essential investing and trading stance. It’s not just about keeping up with market developments. It’s also about regularly testing thinking, checking assumptions about the markets, and examining any understanding of the current market action.

The AI arms race is heating up again—and this time, the signal is coming from both OpenAI and Anthropic.
OpenAI's new flagship model, GPT-6 Astra, has pushed frontier AI capabilities another step forward. At the same time, Anthropic has been sending similar signals: Claude recently posed a question related to the Riemann Hypothesis and completed the first fully computer-checked formalization of Fermat's Last Theorem.

$Broadcom (AVGO.US)$ , a global leader in custom AI ASICs, reported its fiscal Q3 2026 results after the market close. The quarter was strong but the near-term outlook offered limited upside, while management materially raised the long-term AI growth trajectory with $115 billion of AI semiconductor revenue expected in FY27 and $230 billion in FY28.

The semiconductor selloff was broad on Thursday. The $PHLX Semiconductor Index (.SOX.US)$ fell 2.7%, with $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ , $Micron Technology (MU.US)$ , $Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US)$ and most AI-related chip names finishing lower.
Yet one corner of the sector moved sharply in the opposite direction: smartphone and consumer semiconductor stocks, led by $Apple (AAPL.US)$ suppliers.

Memory stocks stood out on Friday, September 4: $SanDisk (SNDK.US)$ surged 11.9%, while $Micron Technology (MU.US)$ gained about 6%, even as the S&P 500 finished lower.
Then came Goldman Sachs’ September 7 readout from Samsung’s non-deal roadshow, or NDR. Samsung put memory demand fulfillment at only around 60%, reiterated that supply conditions could be tighter in 2027 than in 2026, and said shortages could persist into 2028. That upd...

DeepSeek's latest model has introduced a new risk for memory investors.
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash requires just one-quarter of the HBM and one-eighth of the SSD storage for KV cache versus the previous generation. Importantly, DeepSeek says V4.1 Flash still outperforms its previous V4 Pro flagship across its overall benchmark set.
That sounds bearish for HBM and SSD. But the implications are more nuanced.

At Goldman Sachs' Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 10, Jensen Huang joked, “I'm here to sell some $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ stock,” then linked the next AI-infrastructure phase to three ideas: cybersecurity as a continuous AI workload, Australian capacity reaching up to 2GW by 2027, and NVIDIA compute moving toward an investable-asset framework. Huang has said global AI-infrastructure spending could reach $3T–$4T by ...

Memory stocks pulled back sharply on Thursday, with $Micron Technology (MU.US)$ down about 4.3%, $SK hynix (SKHY.US)$ falling around 4%, while $Western Digital (WDC.US)$ and $SanDisk (SNDK.US)$ also moved lower. The broader market was under pressure as hotter-than-expected PPI strengthened rate-hike expectations and pushed Treasury yields higher.
Against this backdrop, a sizable bearish options trade emerged in MU.

The latest earnings calls from NVIDIA, Broadcom, Dell and HPE point to the same problem: AI supply is still struggling to keep up.
Memory Is Still the Biggest Bottleneck
$Dell Technologies (DELL.US)$ offered the clearest ranking. Asked about supply constraints, COO Jeff Clarke responded: “DRAM, DRAM, DRAM followed by NAND, NAND, NAND.”
$Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE.US)$ separately flagged shortages in DDR5, DDR4 and NAND.
