October wasted no time. After a quiet October 1 open — the $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ up a modest 0.2% — the tape exploded on October 2: the index jumped 0.73% to 7,722.72, the $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ surged 1.19% to a fresh record, $NASDAQ 100 Index (.NDX.US)$ closed at an all-time high, and $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ tagged $237.55 intraday before settling at $233.95. The $CBOE Volatility S&P 500 Index (.VIX.US)$ eased 6.6% to 15.31.

On November 3, 2026, Americans won’t choose a president — but they could decide how much power Trump has left. Control of Congress is up for grabs, with the result shaping everything from tariffs and taxes to spending and regulation for the rest of his term.
For markets, the setup is just as consequential: uncertainty into the vote, divided government as the base case, and historically, a relief rally once the political...

Trump is taking the midterm fight to prime time—and even Texas is looking competitive. Republicans gather in Dallas on September 9–10 for their first national midterm convention, with Trump appearing both nights.
Congressional control will shape the remaining two years of his presidency. Investors will be listening for signals on Iran, inflation and economic policy.

A $5,000 check, cheaper medicines and tighter voting rules: Trump’s Dallas convention delivered a sweeping midterm pitch. But $U.S. 10-Year Treasury Notes Yield (US10Y.BD)$ approached 5%, while the $U.S. 30-Year Treasury Bonds Yield (US30Y.BD)$ touched 5.37% on September 10. Americans could receive cash relief while paying more to borrow.

The Market Is Not Hedged for the Modal Outcome
Prediction markets now price a Democratic sweep — Democrats controlling both chambers — at 47% probability, making it the most likely outcome of November's midterms. Yet equity implied volatility $CBOE Volatility S&P 500 Index (.VIX.US)$ does not reflect this. Investors have largely dismissed sweep risk, assuming the president governs through executive orders and Congress remains fu...

Accounts held in Donald Trump's name made a large Meta purchase in August while selling AMD. By October 8, both stocks had gained roughly 30% from their August 21 closing prices.
A separate transaction drew attention for a different reason: the accounts purchased SpaceX debt two days before Trump signed a new commercial space policy.

The Consumer Mirage, Private Credit Contagion, & The Treasury-Crypto Trap
If you want to understand why banks are breaking technical support lines, you have to look past the superficial headline reports. The system is currently running a massive "extend and pretend" operation to mask a severe private-sector recession ahead of the November midterms, but the underlying physical and structural variables are flashi...

$DBS (D05.SG)$ $OCBC Bank (O39.SG)$
Here's a graph of how DBS performed in a midterm election year - which is usually volatile until Nov when elections are done in US.
This year's midterm happens on 3rd nov 2026.
If u saw the past 2 midterm years, there was a dip for DBS around sep to oct, which is similar to other markets globally during a midterm year. Markets do not like unpredictability and big fish derisk prior to elections.

I’m not here to discuss politics.
I’m looking at the midterms purely from a market perspective — because changes in control of Congress can affect spending, regulation, and policy expectations, creating very different setups across sectors. The November election will determine control of the House and reshape how much room the administration has to advance its agenda.
🔵 IF DEMOCRATS OUTPERFORM
Sectors I’d watch:
☀️ Solar / Renewables — $Invesco Solar ETF (TAN.US)$ $Enphase Energy (ENPH.US)$
